Telangana Chief Minister-designate, Revanth Reddy, returned to a hero’s welcome in Hyderabad on Wednesday evening, setting the stage for his swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Thursday. The charismatic leader, who led the Congress party to a historic victory in the recent assembly polls, arrived at Begumpet airport amid enthusiastic cheers and celebrations from his supporters.
Earlier in the day, Reddy had crucial meetings with top Congress leaders in the national capital, including the party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi. The meetings were reportedly focused on charting out the roadmap for the new Congress-led government in Telangana.
Expressing his gratitude on social media, Reddy thanked party leaders and supporters for their unwavering support throughout the election campaign. In a post on [social media platform X], he acknowledged the crucial role played by AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and other party leaders who contributed to the historic win.
“Congratulations to Telangana’s CM Designate, @revanth_anumula. Under his leadership, the Congress govt will fulfill all its guarantees to the people of Telangana and build a Prajala Sarkar,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted from his official handle, expressing confidence in Reddy’s leadership.
Revanth Reddy, known for his vocal criticism of outgoing Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, emerged as the face of the Congress in the assembly polls. A Lok Sabha MP from Malkajgiri, he joined the Congress in 2017 after leaving the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). In June 2021, he assumed the role of president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee.
The Congress party secured an absolute majority in Telangana for the first time since the state’s formation, winning 64 out of 119 seats. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which had governed the state for a decade, trailed behind with 38 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured eight seats, while the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) won seven seats.
As Revanth Reddy prepares to take the oath of office, all eyes are on the incoming Congress government to see how they fulfill their promises and bring about positive change in the youngest state of India.
