India captain Rohit Sharma and star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja propelled the hosts to a score of 185/3 against England in the second session on day one of the third Test match in Rajkot.
At tea, Rohit (97* runs from 154 balls) and Jadeja (68* runs from 126 balls) remained at the crease, guiding India to 185/3 after 52 overs.
This Test series between India and England witnesses the first instance of a team not losing a wicket in a single session.
Rohit and Jadeja formed a vital partnership of 152 runs off 260 balls, steering India to a respectable position after a challenging start in the first session of the third Test.
India surpassed the 100-run mark in the 25.6th over, facing 158 balls. Later, in the 43.6 overs, they reached the 150-run milestone.
On day one in Rajkot, Rohit Sharma hit two sixes, taking his tally to 79 sixes in Test cricket, surpassing Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s record of 78 sixes and becoming India’s second-highest six-hitter after Virender Sehwag, who has hit 91 sixes in Tests.
During the second session on Thursday, Rohit and Jadeja added 92 runs to India’s total, withstanding the fierce spells from James Anderson and Mark Wood, steering the hosts to a dominant position.
In the earlier session, India stood at 93/3 with Rohit (52* runs from 74 balls) and Ravindra Jadeja (24 runs from 44 balls) at the crease.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened for India, with Jaiswal scoring 10 runs before getting dismissed in the 4th over by Mark Wood.
Subsequently, Shubman Gill replaced Jaiswal but was dismissed without scoring, falling to Wood in the 6th over. Rajat Patidar then joined Rohit but departed early, caught by Tom Hartley off the bowling of Wood.
Ravindra Jadeja took Patidar’s place on the crease as India ended the first session at 93/3 after 25 overs.
