“Peace has always been foundational cornerstone of India’s rich cultural, philosophical heritage”: Ruchira Kamboj

During the ‘Discourse on Peace’ event in New York, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, emphasized India’s profound commitment to peace, stating, “Peace has always been a foundational cornerstone of India’s rich cultural and philosophical heritage.”

She highlighted India’s enduring adherence to principles of non-violence, harmony, and coexistence, attributing these values to the influence of Mahatma Gandhi as a champion of non-violent resistance. Kamboj remarked, “Throughout its history, India has embraced the ideals of non-violence, harmony, and coexistence.”

Ruchira Kamboj also drew attention to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on peace, noting its roots in the wisdom of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi. She quoted PM Modi, saying, “Today’s era must not be characterized by war,” emphasizing the deep-seated belief underpinning this approach.

In a previous address to the United Nations General Assembly in July, Kamboj underscored India’s unwavering commitment to a human-centric world through its USD 40 billion development projects with the Global South. She reiterated India’s pledge to be a steadfast ally and catalyst in all peacebuilding endeavors, emphasizing India’s historical role in peacekeeping and peacebuilding.

Ruchira Kamboj characterized India as a beacon of peace rooted in non-violence, highlighting the deployment of over 6,000 security personnel in 10 peacekeeping missions, albeit acknowledging the sacrifice of 177 Indian soldiers, the highest among all countries contributing troops and police to UN peacekeeping operations.
