The Central Bureau of Investigation questioned former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede in connection with the suspected bribery in the drugs-on-cruise case involving Aryan Khan.
On Sunday, Sameer Wankhede was questioned in connection with the matter for the second time. Wankhede stated after leaving the NCB office that he will continue to assist with the inquiry.
“I am fully cooperating with the CBI and will continue to do it. I answered whatever I was asked by CBI,” Wankhede told the media. The CBI has charged Wankhede with allegedly seeking Rs 25 crore as a bribe in exchange for not charging Bollywood celebrity Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan in the drugs-on-cruise case.
The agency stated that the transaction was completed for Rs 18 crore and that Wankhede’s assets were not commensurate to his known sources of income. Wankhede, according to NCB sources, breached the conduct guidelines by producing talks he had with star Shah Rukh Khan about Aryan Khan’s detention in the drugs-on-cruise case.
“Sameer Wankhade giving chats in the court is against the conduct rules of NCB. How an investigating officer can have such chats with the family of the accused?” NCB sources told. They went on to say that “Sameer Wankhede did not inform his superiors about these chats then or placed them on record. Neither he told the vigilance team who were investigating his misconduct about these chats”.
The NCB sources have told that Wankhede did not disclose the phone through which he had conversations with Shahrukh Khan, and he also attempted to intimidate a senior NCB employee when he took over the investigation.
Wankhede had filed an appeal with the Bombay High Court against the CBI’s proceedings against him, and he was given protection from arrest until May 22. The next hearing in the case is scheduled on May 22.
