Due to dense fog, low visibility, and a prevailing cold wave in Gautam Budh Nagar district, all schools, ranging from nursery to standard 8, will remain closed until January 16, 2024, as announced by the Department of Basic Education in Gautam Budh Nagar. District Level Officer Rahul Pawar emphasized strict adherence to this directive, citing the adverse weather conditions.
On Sunday, Northern India woke up to thick fog and experienced a cold wave, leading to zero visibility in various places, including Delhi. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported zero visibility for the first time this winter season in several locations, such as Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan, Patiala, Ambala, Chandigarh, Palam, Safdarjung (New Delhi), Bareilly, Lucknow, Bahraich, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Tezpur.
The national capital, Delhi, witnessed chilly temperatures, with the average minimum temperature dropping to nearly 3 degrees Celsius on Sunday morning. Safdarjung recorded a minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius, Palam at 5.9 degrees Celsius, Lodhi Road at 3.4 degrees Celsius, Ayanagar at 4.0 degrees Celsius, and Ridge at 4.4 degrees Celsius at 8:30 am.
According to IMD data at 5:30 am, very dense fog was observed in isolated parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Bihar, and East Uttar Pradesh. Dense fog conditions were reported in isolated parts of Jammu, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and South Interior Karnataka.
Visibility dropped below 200 meters in the Jammu division, Punjab, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, and Tripura on Sunday morning, according to IMD records.
