“Heightened Security at Delhi Borders Ahead of Farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ Protest”
In anticipation of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest by farmers on Tuesday, extensive security measures have been implemented along the borders of the national capital. Delhi Police have enforced Section 144 to restrict the entry of tractor trolleys and large gatherings, with barricades and barbed wires seen at key border points like Gazipur, Shambhu, Tikri, and Singhu. Mohammed Sarfaraz, SP of Patiala city, reviewed security arrangements at the Shambhu border, while over 2000 personnel, including CAPF, Crime Branch staff, and battalions, are on alert to maintain law and order. Despite efforts to find common ground, the meeting between farmer union leaders and the government ended without a breakthrough. However, Union Minister Arjun Munda expressed hope for resolution through dialogue. Delhi Police have urged residents to cooperate to uphold law and order. The farmers’ protest revolves around demands for a “MSP guarantee law” and debt waivers.
Ankit Singh, DCP of the North East District on Monday said, “Section 144 is in place. Bringing in tractor trolleys and assemblies is restricted. The Delhi Police and the CAPF are here. We have prepared to seal the border. We will ensure that no one breaks this border. If there is any untoward incident we will seal it completely.” Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal and Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda were among the team holding talks with farmer leaders. Punjab Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal was also present.
Delhi Police has urged residents to cooperate and support law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order in the city.
