Shraddha case: Aftab is “trained chef,” Delhi Police says in court; next hearing on March 20

The Delhi Police informed a court today that accused Aftab Amin Poonawala is a “trained chef” who knows how to preserve flesh in the Shraddha murder case. On Tuesday, the accused’s trial began in Delhi’s Saket court.

Aftab is a Taj Hotel chef who knows how to preserve the flesh, according to police, who added that the accused had also ordered dry ice, agarbatti, and other items after killing Shraddha Walker. According to police, after the crime, he entered into a new relationship and gave his new girlfriend a ring. According to Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad, who represents the Delhi Police, the Delhi Police told the entire sequence of the offence in court.

Because the accused, Aftab Amin Poonawalla, changed counsel, all documents were turned over to his new Legal Aid Counsel, MS Khan (LAC). Manish Khurana Kakkar, Additional Sessions Judge, has granted the LAC time to file advance arguments in the case. The next hearing date has been set for March 20.

Aftab is accused of strangling his live-in partner Shraddha Walker in the Mehrauli neighbourhood in May 2022, then chopping her body into 35 pieces. Aaftab has been held in detention since November 12, 2022. On January 24, Delhi police filed a massive 6,629-page charge sheet against Aftab in the murder case.

The charge sheet was filed under sections 302, 201, and other of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The Delhi Police conducted a narco analysis test, a polygraph test, and collected DNA evidence during the investigation to establish the allegations against Aaftab. According to sources, over 150 witnesses were interviewed and their statements were recorded. Aaftab’s voice was also recorded by the police.
