Alleging a plotted scheme to overthrow the Congress government, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah criticized the BJP, asserting that their efforts would be futile. Addressing the press on Sunday, he emphasized that no Congress MLA would defect.
“While it’s true that the BJP is attempting to destabilize our government, their endeavors will be in vain. Though they managed to topple us before, their strategies won’t work this time. It’s evident they are willing to go to any lengths to seize power, but not a single MLA from our party will join the BJP,” Siddaramaiah stated.
His statement follows a series of exchanges between the ruling Congress in Karnataka and the BJP regarding alleged ‘poaching’ attempts known as ‘Operation Kamala’ in the state. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has warned party MLAs against making unauthorized public remarks, threatening to issue notices to those who disobey.
Earlier, BJP leader Aswath Narayan weighed in on the alleged poaching row, indicating that internal conflicts within the Congress could be contributing to the current situation. In response, Shivakumar acknowledged the ongoing poaching attempts but remained confident that such tactics would not succeed.
“We are fully aware of the significant conspiracy at play to undermine the Congress government, but their tactics won’t prevail. We are well-informed and vigilant. Despite attempts by influential figures to lure our MLAs away, their efforts will yield no results. I have instructed party leaders to refrain from making public statements about internal party matters. Any violation will result in a formal notice,” Shivakumar emphasized.
