A devastating fire engulfed a hand glove manufacturing company in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in the early hours of Sunday, claiming the lives of at least six people. The incident occurred at a factory located in the Waluj MIDC area around 02:15 am, according to officials from the Fire department.
“We received a call at 2:15 a.m. When we reached the incident site, the entire factory was on fire. Locals informed us that six people were trapped inside. Our officers entered, and the bodies of six people have been recovered,” reported Mohan Mungse, a fire officer, to ANI. He added that extinguishing work is currently in progress.
Initially, there were claims from locals that at least five workers were trapped inside the building. Subsequently, officials with the fire department confirmed the tragic loss of six lives in the fire incident. Workers revealed that the company was closed, and they were sleeping when the fire broke out.
“10-15 workers were sleeping inside the building when the fire broke out. Some managed to escape, but at least five were trapped inside,” shared one of the workers.
As the dousing operations continue, the exact cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained. The workers’ sleep being abruptly disrupted by the blaze has raised questions about the safety measures and emergency protocols in place at the facility.
