Renowned author and philanthropist Sudha Murty has received a nomination to the Rajya Sabha from President Droupadi Murmu, marking a significant moment on International Women’s Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Ms. Murty, highlighting her nomination as a powerful symbol of ‘Nari Shakti’ or women empowerment.
Expressing his delight, PM Modi praised Sudha Murty’s extensive contributions across various fields such as social work, philanthropy, and education. He emphasized her presence in the Rajya Sabha as a testament to the strength and potential of women in shaping the nation’s destiny.
The nomination to the Upper House of Parliament recognizes individuals for their achievements in arts, literature, sciences, and social services. Sudha Murty, known for her simplicity and humility despite her remarkable accomplishments, is the wife of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy and the mother-in-law of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. She has been honored with the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards for her social work.
An accomplished writer in English and Kannada, Sudha Murty began her career as an engineer with TELCO (now Tata Motors) and currently serves as the chairperson of Infosys Foundation.
