The Cyberabad Special Operation Team (SOT) apprehended an individual on Thursday while he was transporting 50 lakhs of Hawala money from Secunderabad to Gulbarga, within the Raidurgam police station jurisdiction, according to a police official.
The arrested suspect goes by the name Vikram. As stated by Raidurgam police inspector Ch. Venkanna, “The suspect was traveling from Secunderabad to Gulbarga. We intercepted him with 50 lakhs of Hawala money. He did not explain the money; therefore, we plan to hand him over to the income tax authorities. The investigation is ongoing.”
Earlier, on March 1, the Hyderabad Police detained two individuals for allegedly duplicating the fingerprints of sanitation workers and exploiting them to execute unauthorized transactions. Identified as Shivaiah Umesh and J. Shivaram, the arrested individuals are sanitation field assistants at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
According to police sources, the suspects were unlawfully claiming the wages of absent sanitation workers by replicating their fingerprints.
The accused devised a scheme to unlawfully obtain the salaries of absent sanitation workers by replicating their thumb impressions.
It was further revealed by the police that numerous workers were not attending their duties physically, yet their attendance records were consistently marked.
The suspects coerced the sanitation workers into pressing their thumbs onto a layer of candle wax, subsequently covering it with glue to capture the impression.
The layer of glue, which contained the worker’s fingerprint, was then utilized to authenticate attendance using the biometric scanner, despite the worker’s absence.
On the same day, the apprehended suspects, along with 35 synthetic fingerprints and two biometric attendance devices, were transferred to the SHO of the Amberpeat Police Station.
A case has been filed under sections 467, 468, 471, 419, 420, and 409 of the Indian Penal Code.
