10 policemen lost their lives, and six others sustained injuries in a daring terrorist attack on a police station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district. The attack occurred at 3 am in the Daraban tehsil when terrorists launched a coordinated assault on the police station, utilizing heavy weapons and grenades. The assailants targeted the facility from multiple sides, engaging in intense gunfire with the police, who valiantly retaliated. Despite the police response, the terrorists managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
The injured personnel have been promptly transferred to DHQ Hospital for medical attention. Subsequently, law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area and initiated a comprehensive search operation to track down the escaping militants. A quick response force, bolstered by additional reinforcements, has been deployed to address the security situation.
This attack follows a disconcerting trend of rising terrorism in Pakistan. In January alone, the country experienced 93 militant attacks, resulting in the loss of 90 lives and injuries to 135 individuals. Additionally, 15 people were reported abducted during the same period, according to data released by the Islamabad-based think tank, the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies.
