Tight Security in Guwahati as PM Modi Set to Inaugurate Development Projects in Assam

Rigorous security measures have been implemented in Guwahati ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Assam on February 3 and 4. Assam Minister Ashok Singhal inspected the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, Guwahati, on Friday to assess the preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi is slated to address a massive public rally and inaugurate several projects with a combined worth of Rs 11,599 crore at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, Guwahati.

Assam Irrigation Minister Ashok Singhal expressed the excitement among the people regarding the Prime Minister’s visit, anticipating the attendance of lakhs at the public meeting. Singhal highlighted the overwhelming response, mentioning a shortage of transport arrangements due to the enthusiastic welcome planned for Prime Minister Modi.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Guwahati on the evening of February 3. People are excited about this. Lakhs of people are going to arrive for the public meeting. There are many programs before that as well,” said Singhal.

The projects to be inaugurated or initiated by Prime Minister Modi include the Maa Kamakhya Divya Pariyojana, aimed at providing world-class amenities to pilgrims visiting the Kamakhya temple. Under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North Eastern Region (PM-DevINE) scheme, this project aligns with the commitment to enhance facilities at pilgrimage sites.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for road upgrade projects, focusing on the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Corridor Connectivity, with an investment exceeding Rs. 3400 crore. The inauguration of the Dolabari to Jamuguri and Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur 4-laning projects is expected to enhance connectivity and spur economic development in the region.

To harness the sports potential of the area, Modi will also lay the foundation stone for projects aimed at boosting sports infrastructure, including an international-standard sports stadium in Chandrapur and the upgrade of Nehru Stadium to a FIFA-standard football stadium.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the development of infrastructure at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. Another medical college in Karimganj will also see the commencement of development activities under the Prime Minister’s auspices. The visit is anticipated to significantly contribute to the region’s development and overall well-being.
