An unfortunate incident unfolded at the Bundelkhand Gaurav Mahotsav in Uttar Pradesh’s Chitrakoot, resulting in the loss of four young lives and injuries to several others due to an explosion during a fireworks display, as confirmed by local authorities on Thursday.

Bhanu Bhaskar, Additional Director General (ADG) of the Prayagraj Zone, informed reporters that the blast occurred amidst the festivities, leading to the tragic demise of four children. Immediate response teams, including officials from the Chitrakoot district, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), and forensic experts, were dispatched to the site to address the situation.

ADG Bhaskar stated that an FIR has been filed against three individuals, with the possibility of more names being added as the investigation progresses. Harsh Pandey, CO, has been assigned as the lead investigator to ensure a thorough and prompt inquiry, with assistance from teams arriving from various cities.

While expressing condolences to the affected families, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a high-level inquiry, headed by an additional director general (ADG), to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. He also announced financial aid of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

ADG Bhaskar assured that authorities are actively engaging with the bereaved families and are committed to providing necessary support. The government has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh to each affected family, along with ongoing efforts to ensure justice and assistance for all those impacted by the incident.

As investigations continue, authorities are striving to gather more details while extending support to the affected families during this challenging time.
