Tribal Woman Injured in Crossfire Between Security Forces and Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur District

In a recent clash between security forces and Maoists in the dense forests near Bodga village in Bijapur district, a 44-year-old tribal woman sustained a gunshot wound, according to police reports. The skirmish occurred around 3 pm on Wednesday, as armed Maoists engaged in a gunfight with a joint team of security personnel, including the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF).

Authorities launched the operation based on intelligence indicating the presence of members of the Bhairamgarh area committee of Naxalites in the region. Following the confrontation, security forces conducted search operations, during which they discovered the injured woman, identified as Rahe Oyam, lying in the vicinity. It is believed that she was caught in the crossfire and suffered bullet wounds during the exchange.

Prompt medical attention was provided to Oyam, who was initially taken to the Bhairamgarh community health center. However, due to the severity of her injuries, she was subsequently referred to the medical college hospital in Jagdalpur’s Dimrapal for further treatment.

This incident underscores the persistent conflict between security forces and Maoist insurgents in Chhattisgarh’s volatile regions. It comes on the heels of another encounter just two days prior, where state police reported the death of a suspected Maoist in a gunfight in Dantewada district. The ongoing violence in these areas highlights the challenges faced by both authorities and local communities in ensuring peace and security amidst the insurgency.
