In a tragic incident on Monday, Bijan Das, the deputy head of Guma 1 panchayat and a prominent Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, was allegedly shot dead in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district. The incident occurred while he was visiting a colleague’s house. Manav Kalyan Majumdar, another TMC leader, arrived at the scene promptly upon learning about the incident and accused the opposition of orchestrating the murder to instill fear among ruling party leaders.
Majumdar expressed his suspicion, stating, “I feel this is a complete conspiracy by the opposition party, especially in West Bengal, where the TMC is working for the people, and the opposition is resorting to such conspiracies to create fear among us.” He emphasized that targeting leaders, including the head, deputy head, and regional leaders, was part of a calculated effort to obstruct them from fulfilling their responsibilities.
Upon arriving at the scene, Majumdar revealed, “It was revealed that a man named Gautam Das was suspected of murdering Bijan. Police officers are present, conducting an investigation.” He further conveyed his concern over such incidents, describing them as unprecedented challenges for leaders who have to work tirelessly. Majumdar urged the government to swiftly apprehend the culprit and ensure appropriate punishment to deter future occurrences.
“I urge the government to immediately investigate and arrest the culprit, providing an appropriate punishment to prevent such incidents in the future,” he stressed. The incident has sparked concerns about the safety and security of political leaders in the region, with calls for a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind the assassination.
