UP ATS Unravels ISIS Module at Aligarh Muslim University, Detains Two Key Members

In a significant development, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested two individuals, namely Amas alias Faraz Ahmed and Abdul Samad Malik, allegedly involved in establishing an ISIS module at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

This action is part of an ongoing investigation initiated in November 2023 based on intelligence inputs regarding illegal activities and anti-national plans associated with ISIS.

According to the official statement from UP ATS, Amas was apprehended on January 8, 2024, in Aligarh, having evaded capture since the arrest of his associates on November 3. A reward of Rs 25,000 was announced for information leading to his arrest before this.

Abdul Samad Malik, who carried a similar reward, had already surrendered before the court.

The ATS received information about individuals working for ISIS and engaging in anti-national activities. After confirming this information, ATS registered a case on November 3, 2023, and arrested seven people, including Abdullah Arsalan, Maaz Bin Tariq, and Wajihuddin.

The investigation revealed that both Amas Ahmed and Abdul Samad Malik are students of AMU and supporters of ISIS. They were reportedly planning a major terrorist attack. Amas Ahmed graduated in psychology from AMU in 2022 and appeared for the MBA entrance exam in 2023, while Abdul Samad Malik was pursuing an MSW (Master of Social Work) at AMU.

The arrested suspects will be presented in court following the established procedures, and further legal action will be taken. The investigation is ongoing, and additional information is expected in due course.
