In a meeting with Shah Rukh Khan on Tuesday at the actor’s Mumbai home, Mannat, newly appointed US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti discussed Bollywood and its “huge cultural impact” around the world.
Garcetti tweeted about his visit to the regal residence of King Khan. “Is it time for my Bollywood debut? Had a wonderful chat with superstar @iamsrk at his residence Mannat, learning more about the film industry in Mumbai and discussing the huge cultural impact of Hollywood and Bollywood across the globe,” the US ambassador posted on the platform.
Coupled with this amusing statement, Garcetti also uploaded images of himself posing for the camera with SRK. In another image, Pooja Dadlani, the manager of Shah Rukh Khan, and his wife Gauri Khan are gathered around Garcetti, who is holding a yellow football.
The actor from ‘Pathaan’ was spotted sporting a full-sleeve black t-shirt with matching black trousers and a golf cap to spice up the casual ensemble.
The day before, Garcetti visited the “Sabarmati Ashram” in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where the villagers showered him with garlands. He gave everyone the customary “Namaste” greeting. At the Rashtrapati Bhavan earlier on May 11, Garcetti and representatives from Qatar and the Principality of Monaco handed President Droupadi Murmu their credentials.
“The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu accepted credentials from the Ambassadors of the United States of America, Qatar and Monaco at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan today,” a statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan read.
India a key partner for a prosperous Indo-Pacific: US Ambassador
As President Droupadi Murmu accepted the credentials, and Garcetti expressed his gratitude in a video message saying, “The world’s oldest and largest democracies, two nations that believe in our hearts about the power of people, have a great chapter to write together in the years ahead. India’s partnership is the key to a free and prosperous Indo-Pacific and beyond.”
“And I’m excited to work with you to ensure we advance this defining relationship of the 21st century. Together, we will address global health challenges, confront climate change, and deliver the next generation of critical and emerging technologies to improve the lives of our people. I couldn’t be more excited to be here in India and to make this our new home and to work alongside you. Together we will show the world how the United States and India are better together,” the US ambassador said.
Garcetti also thanked US President Joe Biden for selecting him as the country’s 26th ambassador to India.
In March of this year, Garcetti, a former Los Angeles mayor, was sworn in as the next US ambassador to India by US Vice President Kamala Harris. His earlier appointment as the next US ambassador to India was confirmed by the Senate.
