US President Joe Biden Leaves For Israel As Tensions Escalate in the Region

US President Joe Biden has set off for a crucial diplomatic visit to the Middle East, where he intends to express unwavering support for Israel in the wake of the recent Hamas terrorist attack. Departing from Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, the President’s itinerary includes stops in Israel and Jordan, as per Reuters.

In a statement shared on social media, President Biden affirmed his purpose, stating, “I’m traveling to Israel tomorrow to stand in solidarity in the face of Hamas’s brutal terrorist attack and to consult on the next steps. I’ll then travel to Jordan to meet with leaders and address dire humanitarian needs–and make clear that Hamas does not stand for Palestinians’ right to self-determination.”

Addressing the significance of Biden’s upcoming visit, John Kirby, the National Security Council’s coordinator for strategic communications, emphasized the United States’ commitment to bolstering Israel’s defense against Hamas. In a video released by the White House, he stressed, “President Biden will have two stops, Tel Aviv and Amman, Jordan. In both these stops, he will talk about how important it is for the US and other partners to stand up for Israel and allow them to continue to defend themselves against Hamas terrorists. The US support will stay strong and steady.”

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken underscored that the President’s visit holds paramount importance. Blinken stated, “US President Joe Biden will visit Israel on Wednesday. He is coming here at a critical moment for Israel, for the region, and for the world. President Biden will reaffirm the United States’ solidarity with Israel.”

Blinken further emphasized the collaborative efforts between the US and Israel to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas, stating, “The President will hear from Israel how it will conduct its operations in a way that minimizes civilian casualties and enables humanitarian assistance to flow to civilians in Gaza in a way that does not benefit Hamas.”

The Biden administration is also actively coordinating with Israel to devise a plan for delivering essential humanitarian aid to the civilians in Gaza. Blinken added, “To that end, today and at our request, the United States and Israel have agreed to develop a plan that will enable humanitarian aid from donor nations and multilateral organizations to reach civilians in Gaza and them alone, including the possibility of creating areas to help keep civilians out of harm’s way. It is critical that aid begins flowing into Gaza as soon as possible.”
