Varanasi, known for its vibrant cultural heritage, witnessed a spectacular celebration of Dev Diwali, adorned by the glow of 12 lakh earthen lamps illuminating the city’s ghats. Following this dazzling display, the city’s administration showcased remarkable efficiency in cleaning the lamps overnight, ensuring the ghats retained their pristine charm for the devout.
Despite the immense number of lamps lighting up the city during the festivities, the ghats stood immaculately clean the next morning. This commitment to cleanliness underscores the city’s deep reverence for its spiritual legacy and the significance of Dev Diwali to its residents.
A resident of Lucknow, Manju Sha, praised the city’s cleanliness, stating, “We witnessed the grandeur of Dev Diwali with our family, and it was truly mesmerizing to see the ghats illuminated by 12 lakh earthen lamps. The administration’s efforts in cleaning these lamps overnight are commendable, ensuring that the city remains pristine and inviting for devotees.”
Devotees echoed their appreciation, with one stating at Varanasi’s Ghat, “Last night we came here to witness Dev Diwali, around 12 lakh diyas were lightened, but when we came here this morning, the ghats were clean.”
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the celebrations by lighting the first lamp on Dev Diwali. The event drew citizens, dignitaries, ambassadors, and envoys from 70 countries, as well as 150 delegates and their families. The celebration showcased the splendor of Kashi on the festival.
Dev Diwali in Kashi saw the government contributing 12 lakh lamps, including one lakh made from cow dung, while voluntary organizations and individuals added more lamps, transforming Kashi into a resplendent sea of light. This marked the first occasion where diplomats from various nations experienced a sense of pride witnessing an extraordinary and unforgettable moment. With the Yogi government giving the status of ‘state fair’ to Dev Diwali this year, the festival’s aura is spreading worldwide.
