‘Why Bharat Matters’- EAM Jaishankar speaks about his book at Raisina Dialogue 2024

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar delivered a compelling address at the Raisina Dialogue 2024, shedding light on the significance of his book “Why Bharat Matters” and its relevance in understanding India’s evolving role on the global stage.

Speaking on Friday, Jaishankar underscored the importance of comprehending ‘Why Bharat Matters’ for both Indian nationals and individuals residing abroad. He expressed his conviction that India will play a more significant role in the upcoming decade and century, urging everyone to grasp the reasons behind this assertion.

Jaishankar elucidated that his book delves into various aspects, including the state of the world, globalization, technology, and digital advancements. He acknowledged the complexities brought about by globalization, emphasizing its promises and pitfalls. Additionally, he highlighted the transformative impact of technology and digitalization, while also acknowledging the vulnerabilities they entail.

Furthermore, Jaishankar emphasized that “Why Bharat Matters” aims to elucidate the relevance of foreign policy to all individuals, irrespective of their involvement in diplomatic affairs. He stressed the need to recognize the interconnectedness of global events and their impact on people’s lives, citing examples such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the repercussions of conflicts like that in Ukraine.

Transitioning to his second book, “The India Way,” Jaishankar elucidated its focus on India’s significance in people’s lives. He explained the choice of the term “Bharat” in “Why Bharat Matters,” highlighting its representation of a societal transformation deeply rooted in India’s culture, traditions, and heritage. According to Jaishankar, contemporary thought processes in India are more authentic and grounded in its rich cultural ethos.

In essence, EAM Jaishankar’s address at the Raisina Dialogue 2024 underscored the imperative of understanding ‘Why Bharat Matters’ in shaping global perspectives and recognizing India’s evolving role in the international arena.
