DAC gives prelim approval to military projects worth ₹76.39 cr

On Monday, the Defence Purchase Council (DAC), led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, gave preliminary clearance, known as the Acceptance of Necessity (AoN), to capital acquisition bids worth Rs 76,390 crore for the armed services.

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has agreed to accept the demand for proposals for the acquisition of the capital. Under India’s defence procurement laws, the council of Aon, led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, is the first step in purchasing military equipment.

“This will significantly improve the Indian defence industry and significantly reduce foreign investment,” the department said.

Officials said that “the next generation of naval corvettes will cost about Rs 36,000 crore and will be used to guard, escort, search, attack, prevent, and protect the coast”.

The department said that “these corvettes will be based on the new indoor construction of the Indian Navy using state-of-the-art technology and will contribute to advancing the government’s SAGAR (Regional Safety and Growth) campaign.”

The military equipment required for indigenization includes lightweight tanks, helicopters, rifles, arrows, missiles, light fighters, light planes, long-range missiles, helicopters, assault rifles, shotguns, and air traffic control systems.

Over the past two years, India has imposed a ban on the importation of 310 types of weapons and systems, including next-generation corvettes, to boost “Aatmanirbharta”.
