One died and four others injured at California church the day after Buffalo mass shooting

Emergency vehicles looked to be queued up outside a church in photos shared on social media.

A shooting at a church near Los Angeles left one person dead and four others “critically” injured, police said Sunday, just one day after a shooter killed ten people at a grocery store in New York state.

“Four victims have been gravely injured,” according to a tweet from the Orange County Sheriff Department. “At the scene, one person has died.”

According to the authorities, another person suffered “minimal” injuries, and all of the victims were adults.

At 1:26 p.m. (20:26 GMT) on Sunday, law authorities received an emergency call from Geneva Presbyterian Church.

In an earlier tweet, the sheriff’s department wrote, “We have detained one suspect and discovered a weapon that may be involved.”

Orange County Fire Authority crews and paramedics were “on scene and treating and transporting many individuals,” according to a tweet from the agency.

Governor Gavin Newsom’s office said it was working with local officials to keep an eye on the situation.

“No one should be afraid of visiting their place of worship. Our hearts go out to the victims “The office sent out a tweet.

“Upsetting and frightening news, especially less than a day after a horrible massacre in Buffalo,” said Democratic Congresswoman Katie Porter, who represents Orange County in Washington.

“This cannot become our new normal.”

The church is in Laguna Woods, 45 miles (70 kilometres) southeast of Los Angeles, according to the sheriff’s department.
