US, EU discussed steps to further ‘isolate’ Moscow in first high-level talks on Russia

"The European Union and the United States held today in Washington, DC, the first US-EU High-Level Dialogue on Russia.... They also discussed additional steps to isolate Russia further from the US and EU economies and the international financial system [and] to impose severe costs on Russia for its actions," the statement said on Wednesday.

In a joint statement, the US State Department and the European External Action Service claimed that during their first high-level meeting on Russia, the US and EU delegations explored other actions they could take to further isolate Moscow.

“The European Union and the United States held today in Washington, DC, the first US-EU High-Level Dialogue on Russia…. They also discussed additional steps to isolate Russia further from the US and EU economies and the international financial system [and] to impose severe costs on Russia for its actions,” the statement said on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the US team was led by Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland, while the EU mission was led by Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs Enrique Mora of the European External Action Service. According to the statement, both sides agreed to convene another high-level meeting on Russia in late 2022.
