On Wednesday afternoon, November 6, Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris gave her concession speech at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
She began by thanking voters, her family, President Joe Biden, Dr. Jill Biden, and election officials. Harris also extended her congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump, expressing her commitment to supporting him and his team in facilitating a smooth and peaceful transfer of power.
Donald Trump has made a political resurgence, securing the position of the 47th President of the United States after winning the electoral college with 292 votes, defeating Democratic opponent Kamala Harris.
Harris during her speech shared, “My heart is full today,” adding, “Full of gratitude for the trust you’ve placed in me, full of love for our country, and full of determination.”
In her concession speech, Kamala Harris highlighted that Americans’ loyalty should not be to any president or political party, but to the U.S. Constitution, their conscience, and their faith in God. She acknowledged the election outcome, but emphasized that she would not surrender the “fight that fueled this campaign.”
“Earlier today, I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory,” she said. “I also told him that we will help him and his team with their transition and that we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power.” The crowd then erupted in applause.
In her speech, Kamala Harris reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for the “dreams, ambitions, and aspirations” of the American people, including the vision where women have the freedom to make decisions about their own bodies without government interference.
Harris encouraged the audience to champion freedom and democracy in “private ways,” emphasizing the importance of using their strength to uplift others and advocate for the dignity that everyone deserves.
Harris told the nation’s youth, “You have the potential to make an extraordinary impact on the world.” She urged everyone watching not to lose hope, saying, “Now is not the time to give up, but to get to work—organize, mobilize, and stay involved.”
Harris encouraged the young people of the country, stating, “You have the ability to make a significant positive impact.” She urged the audience, “Do not lose hope. This is not the time to give up, but to get to work—organize, mobilize, and remain engaged.”
In her speech, Harris spoke directly to young people, acknowledging that it’s natural to feel “sad and disappointed.” She reassured them, saying, “It’s going to be OK. I often said on the campaign trail that when we fight, we win. But here’s the reality — sometimes the fight takes time. That doesn’t mean victory isn’t coming.”
