Kamala Harris Wins Maryland’s 10 Electoral Votes Over Trump

Vice President Kamala Harris secured a victory in Maryland’s electoral race, claiming the state’s 10 electoral votes against Republican candidate Donald Trump. Maryland, a state with a history of Democratic support and distaste for Trump, upheld its trend by decisively backing Harris, whose victory was projected by the Associated Press soon after the polls closed.

Maryland’s Strong Democratic Support

Despite being overlooked by both campaigns in favor of battleground states like Pennsylvania and Michigan, Maryland’s deep-blue leaning made Harris’s win expected. The state last saw a significant Democratic lead in 2020 when President Joe Biden won by a large margin of 33 percentage points over Trump, marking one of the most decisive victories in the country.

While Harris and Trump focused efforts elsewhere, Maryland Democrats actively rallied for Harris, organizing volunteer groups to canvas in nearby swing states. Democratic Governor Wes Moore, known for his rising national profile, dedicated substantial efforts to support Harris, traveling extensively to campaign on her behalf in key battlegrounds.

Local Voter Sentiments

Maryland voters expressed strong opinions on Election Day, with many seeing their vote as both a stance for Harris and against Trump. Kevin Phillips, a Columbia resident, emphasized the need for job creation and a change from Trump’s administration. Other residents like Alfreda Watts cited Harris’s commitment to forward progress and advocacy for the underprivileged as their reasons for support.

However, Trump also drew supporters concerned about economic issues and immigration. Carly Lederman of Westminster cast her vote for Trump, citing concerns over economic conditions. Likewise, Steven Majer, who had not voted in recent elections, felt motivated by Trump’s policies and his perception of Trump’s effectiveness in office.

Harris’s supporters gathered at Howard University, her alma mater, in Washington, D.C., to celebrate. Attendees like Lauren McCadney, who graduated with Harris, admired her achievements and resilience. McCadney particularly highlighted Harris’s performance during the Brett Kavanaugh hearings, praising her poise and strength.
