Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also congratulated Trump on his victory, calling it “impressive.” Zelenskyy recalled their past meeting in September, where they discussed the Ukraine-U.S. strategic partnership and the Victory Plan. The UK Prime Minister expressed his eagerness to work with President Trump in the years to come, emphasizing that the UK-US relationship would “continue to thrive.”

“As the closest of allies, we stand united in defending our shared values of freedom, democracy, and enterprise,” he added.

Optimism From Australia

Anthony Albanese and Peter Dutton have emphasized that the US-Australia relationship will remain strong despite the change in leadership, while the outcome of the US election has raised concerns within Labor about the role inflation played in Donald Trump’s victory.

“Not an easy read for incumbents,” texted one minister, reflecting the mood among MPs as they followed the election results during Question Time on Wednesday, with Trump edging out Kamala Harris.

Another minister, speaking privately, noted that the US election outcome, which was influenced by issues like uncontrolled migration, reaffirmed the government’s concerns about the cost of living.

Mr. Albanese, who considers outgoing President Joe Biden a “friend,” congratulated Trump in a statement on Wednesday evening.

“Our government looks forward to working with the new Trump administration to advance the benefits of our robust economic partnership,” he said.

“The United States has long been a cornerstone of stability and security in the Indo-Pacific. Australia will continue to strengthen cooperation with the US in the region.”

“Australia and America are long-standing allies, bound by a history of shared sacrifice, common values, and, above all, mutual respect and affection between our peoples.”

Donald Trump claimed victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential race after Fox News projected his win over Democrat Kamala Harris. Speaking to supporters at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, Trump declared, “America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate.” He was joined by his vice-presidential pick, Senator JD Vance, and his family.
