While many countries worldwide are cosidering a 4-day workweek, Greece is moving towards a 6-day workweek. From 1July, some workers will move to a 6-day workweek instead of the usual 5 days.
Select industrial and manugacturing facilities along with businesses that provide 24/7 are eligible to extend the workweek beyond 5 days. Tourism and food service industries are excluded from this.
The move aims to tackle labour productivity issues stemming from unemploymenr and shrinking population. This also addresses lack of killed labours which are there in the country.
Those who work more will also be paid more. Workers will be paid 40% more for the extra work. The government hopes that the increased 6th workday will reduce undeclared overtime work.
Employs will have an option to split their work in various ways, working for 2 additional hour a day or working a maximum of 8 hours on the 6th day.
