25 Killed, 10 Injured in Afghanistan’s Landslide

A devastating landslide wreaked havoc in Afghanistan’s Nuristan province on Monday, claiming the lives of at least 25 individuals, as reported by Khaama Press, citing the Taliban-led Ministry of Disaster Management.

Adding to the tragedy, 10 others sustained injuries in the landslide that struck the Nuragaram district of Nuristan province.

In a recent statement, Mohammad Abdullah Jan, the ministry’s head of Information and Communications, revealed that the mountain slide, triggered by recent rains in the village of “Nakrah” in Nurgaram district, resulted in the loss of lives and the destruction of 15 to 20 residential houses, either fully or partially.

He further highlighted that recent rains had caused roadblocks in Nuristan, Kunar, and Panjshir provinces.

According to the head of information and communications at the Ministry of Disaster Management, a snow avalanche hit Panjshir province, leading to the disappearance of five workers, as reported by Khaama Press. However, local officials in Panjshir claimed that two of the miners had already succumbed to the disaster.

The recent spate of natural disasters in Afghanistan, including landslides and avalanches, has resulted in significant loss of life and property damage.

Moreover, with Afghanistan grappling with a faltering economy and an acute humanitarian crisis, the citizens are facing immense challenges in making ends meet.
