At least 90 people were injured in an explosion that occurred at a mosque on Monday in Peshawar, Pakistan’s northwest, a local police official told Reuters.
According to police officer Sikandar Khan, the explosion happened in the mosque where many people had congregated to worship.
“A portion of the building had collapsed and several people are believed to be under it,” Khan added.
The mosque was located close to a police housing block, and there were some 260 people inside when the blast occurred, according to police, Reuters reported.
Police chief Muhammad Ijaz Khan told AFP that the incident happened during afternoon prayers in Peshawar near Afghanistan.
“We have received dead bodies. It’s an emergency situation,” Muhammad Asim Khan, a spokesman for the main hospital in Peshawar said.
