Australian Speaker Applauds India’s Global Leadership Ahead of P20 Summit

Australian Speaker Milton Dick has emphasized India’s growing prominence on the global political stage. The Speaker expressed his excitement about the forthcoming Parliament-20 meeting of G20 nations’ presiding officers in an interview with a media agency.

According to Dick, India stands as a genuine leader in international affairs. He eagerly anticipates the gathering of speakers from around the world, set to convene tomorrow. The primary focus of this meeting will be on Friday, following fruitful discussions with members of the Lok Sabha. Today, he joins a foundation dedicated to impactful policy work, ensuring meaningful interactions and, most importantly, tangible outcomes.

Furthermore, the Australian House of Representatives Speaker remarked that engaging in discussions about sustainable development goals at the summit is a privilege for him. As he put it, “These next few days promise to be thrilling, and it’s a tremendous honor for me to represent Australia and, most importantly, stress the significance of our actions in the realms of climate and sustainability.”

The Parliament-20 meeting of G20 nations’ presiding officers is scheduled to take place at the Yashobhoomi, the India International Convention and Expo Centre in Delhi’s Dwarka from October 13 to 14. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event on October 13 in the national capital.

The P20 Summit will feature four high-level sessions, including discussions on accelerating Sustainable Development Goals, sustainable energy transition, transforming people’s lives through public digital platforms, and promoting women-led development.

Milton Dick also lauded the recent passage of the women’s reservation bill by the Indian Parliament, which seeks to provide 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state Assemblies. He described this as a highly positive step, highlighting the Australian government’s own strides in promoting gender diversity, with 52 percent of its members being women, the highest representation they’ve ever achieved. He commended the commitment to diversity and inclusion exhibited by Indian parliamentarians and the presence of a female Indian president in senior leadership roles.
