A shooter opened fire on a dance studio in the US state of California on Saturday night, killing nine people and injuring numerous more, Los Angeles Times reported.
The incident happened at 10 p.m. local time near the site of a Chinese Lunar New Year party, according to the US daily, citing law enforcement officials and witnesses. Tens of thousands of people came on Saturday for the commencement of the Lunar New Year festivities, one of the region’s greatest events. According to the report, the injured were transferred to many hospitals in the vicinity. It was unclear whether a suspect had been apprehended.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Chinese Lunar New Year festival is one of the largest in the area. There have been several fatalities, according to internal police correspondence.
People were eating skewers and shopping for Chinese cuisine and jewellery earlier in the day on Saturday.
The New Year’s Eve celebrations were scheduled from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Social media videos revealed the presence of police and fire units on Garvey Avenue, as well as the treatment of wounded.
According to the LA Times, wounded patients were sent to several hospitals around the region.
According to the report, Seung Won Choi, owner of the Clam House seafood barbeque across the street from where the shooting occurred, claimed three individuals rushed into his restaurant and instructed him to shut the door.
According to the report, three persons told him that there was a man with a machine gun in the area. People also informed Choi that the shooter had numerous rounds of ammo on him.
