In a major development concerning India-Canada ties, a Canadian MP of the ruling liberal party Chandra Arya recently met India’s external affairs minister S Jaishankar in New Delhi on Monday.
Thus, becoming the first Canadian official to interact with an official in India since relations between the two countries deteriorated sharply last September.
Later, responding to external affairs minister’s tweet, Arya taking to X said that India and Canada should elevate their relationship, as Canada needs skilled Indian professionals and also hosts a significant number of Indian students.
Meanwhile, Chandra Arya has strongly criticized separatist elements, which are present in Canada. Thus, he has come under the radar of Khalistani supporters.
Early in July, the general counsel of Sikhs for Justice Gurpatwant Pannun has also threatened this indo-canadian MP saying ‘The likes of Arya and his supporters, you have no places in Canada.’ Moreover, he also demanded, that he and members of the Hindu-Canadian community, should go back to India.
