Rumors have been swirling about Celine Dion receiving a $2 million paycheck for her performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony. However, Page Six recently exclusively confirmed that the Grammy-winning artist, along with other performers, will not be paid for their participation in this historic event.
An Olympics spokesperson clarified on Wednesday, “Contrary to some media reports, the performers at the Paris 2024 Games ceremonies will not receive a fee for their performance. Their decision to perform under these conditions reflects their desire to be part of a historic event for France and for the world of sports.”
While there will be no performance fees, the organization will cover all expenses related to the technical production and costs associated with the performances, as is customary.
Celine Dion is slated to take the stage for a single song during the opening ceremony on Friday. This appearance will mark her first public performance in years, following a hiatus due to health issues.
Dion’s involvement, although not officially confirmed by the spokesperson, has been hinted at by insiders. Her return to the stage is eagerly anticipated by fans worldwide, especially given her recent health struggles.
In 2021, Dion halted her Las Vegas residency due to severe muscle spasms. A year later, she disclosed her diagnosis of stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that causes painful and progressive muscular rigidity and stiffness. This condition has significantly impacted her ability to perform.

In her documentary, “I Am: Celine Dion,” she provided an intimate look into her health challenges, including footage of her experiencing a seizure. Sports medicine therapist Terrill Lobo, who has been treating Dion, explained that the seizure was likely due to overstimulation of her brain when she returned to the recording studio. Despite these challenges, Dion remains resolute in her desire to perform for her fans.
In recent months, the “My Heart Will Go On” singer has been making efforts to re-enter the public eye. She made a surprise appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards in February, where she presented the award for Album of the Year to Taylor Swift. In March, she was seen at a Bruins game, energetically playing air guitar. Additionally, Dion graced the cover of Vogue France and attended red carpet events to promote her documentary.
