Why is cinnamon recalled?
US has requested to return Ground and powdered cinnamon to the maker, over safety concerns. Because of the excessive lead amount. After the recall notice, the FDA announced an additional recall for another cinnamon brand that might be contaminated with lead. Shahzada brand Cinnamon Powder in 7 oz packs and Spice Class brand Ground Cinnamon are being recalled because they “have the potential to be contaminated with elevated levels of lead.”“The recall was the result of an analysis conducted by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets (NYSAGM) that revealed the product contained elevated levels of lead,” the agency added.

Which states have recalled?
The FDA reported that Shahzada brand Cinnamon Powder was sent to retailers in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, while Spice Class brand Ground Cinnamon was distributed to retailers in the New York City area. Neither product was sold online.
Although no illnesses related to these recalled products have been reported, the FDA warns that in children, long-term exposure to high levels of lead can cause “permanent damage to the central nervous system.” This can lead to “learning disorders, developmental defects, and other long-term health problems.” In adults, “chronic lead exposure is associated with kidney dysfunction, hypertension, and neurocognitive effects.”
The FDA advises consumers who have these recalled products to “discontinue use of the product immediately.” Customers should also return the products to where they bought them for a full refund.
