Prime Minister Modi conveyed his condolences in response to the tragic explosion at a hospital in Gaza. The incident left him “deeply shocked.” Expressing concern over the escalating civilian casualties in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, PM Modi emphasized the need to hold those responsible for such losses to account. Taking to his official social media platform, he posted the following message: “Deeply shocked at the tragic loss of lives at the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, and prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured. Civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict are a matter of serious and continuing concern. Those involved should be held responsible.”
This tragedy has also prompted responses from other world leaders. On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden, through an official White House statement, expressed his outrage and deep sadness regarding the hospital explosion. He conveyed his condolences and emphasized the need to protect civilian lives during conflicts. President Biden promptly reached out to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Jordan’s King Abdullah II to gather more information about the incident.
French President Emmanuel Macron joined the chorus of condemnation, firmly stating that attacks on hospitals and civilians cannot be justified. Macron conveyed his sympathy for the Palestinian victims of the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital attack in Gaza, stressing the importance of shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, an Israeli government spokesperson, Tal Heinrich, defended Israel’s position, stating that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) do not intentionally target hospitals. They maintain that their operations are aimed at Hamas strongholds, arms depots, and terror-related targets. Palestinian sources, however, estimate a significant loss of life as a result of the hospital explosion.
The devastating explosion at the Gaza hospital on Tuesday, according to health authorities in the Hamas-controlled area, claimed the lives of hundreds of people. The Gaza civil defense chief reported on Al-Jazeera television that over 300 individuals lost their lives in the hospital explosion. Investigations into the incident continue as the international community calls for transparency and accountability amid the ongoing conflict.
