Donald Trump raises USD 4 million in 24 hrs after hush money indictment

Donald Trump raises over USD 4 million towards his 2024 presidential run within 24 hours after his indictment.

According to former president’s campaign more than 25 per cent of the contributions came from first-time contributors, further establishing his position as the undisputed front-runner in the Republican primary. “This incredible surge of grassroots contributions confirms that the American people see the indictment of President Trump as a disgraceful weaponization of our justice system by a Soros-funded prosecutor,” The Hill reported citing the press release of the Trump campaign. Trump promised in a fundraising email that the “witch hunt” being conducted by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) would “backfire enormously” shortly after the news of the indictment became public.

The former president was indicted on criminal charges on March 30 by a grand jury in New York for his role in a hush money payment that was made to adult film star Stormy Daniels by his longtime fixer, Michael Cohen, prior to the 2016 presidential election.

Trump is expected to be arraigned in Manhattan criminal court around 2:15 p.m. on April 14 following his indictment. According to a source with knowledge of the plans, officials involved in the planning of Trump’s appearance are considering suspending all other case activity at the court during the time that the former president is anticipated to appear.

Trump’s attorney said the former president will “absolutely” voluntarily surrender to New York law enforcement and plans to file “substantial” legal challenges, reported CNN.
This is the first time a former president of the United States has been charged with a crime. The arraignment was documented under seal and the charges are not yet open.
A Manhattan grand jury indicted Trump on more than 30 counts of business fraud on Thursday.
