EAM Jaishankar Leads Inaugural Session at 7th Indian Ocean Conference

The 7th Indian Ocean Conference, which begins today in Perth, Australia, will be addressed by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar under the theme “Towards a Stable and Sustainable Indian Ocean.” In collaboration with the India Foundation, the Ministry of External Affairs hosts the Indian Ocean Conference every year as a premier consultative forum for nations in the Indian Ocean region. This conference is being organized in collaboration with the Australian government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore, and the Perth-US Asia Centre in Australia.

According to Ministry of External Affairs press release, “The theme of this edition of the conference is Towards a Stable and Sustainable Indian Ocean,”
This significant gathering, organized annually by the Ministry of External Affairs in association with the India Foundation, marks a collaborative effort with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Government of Australia, the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Singapore, and the Perth-US Asia Centre in Australia.
The 7th Indian Ocean Conference brings together distinguished leaders and delegates to deliberate on crucial regional issues.

Delegations headed by ministers from more than 22 nations, as well as senior officials from 16 nations and six multilateral organizations, will be present at the event. Additionally, the Conference was actively attended by over 400 business and social leaders, policy practitioners, academics, professionals, and media representatives from about 40 different nations. The Indian Ocean Conference, which was first held in Singapore in 2016, has played a significant role in promoting cooperation between the major maritime partners and the countries of the region. The Conference aims to promote discussion on the potential for regional cooperation for Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) through its platform.

The 7th Indian Ocean Conference stands as a testament to the collective commitment towards enhancing stability and sustainability across the Indian Ocean Region.
