Easter Heist Baffles LA: $30M Missing From Vault, Police Scramble For Clues

A skilled group of robbers carried out a meticulously planned heist on Easter Sunday, making off with around $30 million from a vault located at the GardaWorld facility in Sylmar, Los Angeles. The theft remained undetected until the next morning.

Sources informed Eyewitness News that the GardaWorld facility in Sylmar manages cash for numerous businesses in the vicinity. According to the LA Times, only a select few individuals would have been aware of the cash stored at the facility, suggesting that the burglary was carried out by experienced thieves.

Break-In Leaves Investigators Stumped

“The thieves were so stealthy that the safe showed no signs of a break-in from the outside and the operators of the business were none the wiser until they opened it on Monday,” the Los Angeles Times said.

As per officials familiar with the investigation, the burglars entered the facility by accessing the roof and successfully avoided triggering any alarms as they made their way into the money storage area.

Wednesday’s footage of the facility displayed a significant hole on one side of the building, accompanied by a pile of debris nearby. The outlet stated that it remains unclear whether this damage resulted from the break-in.

The Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI, among other law enforcement agencies, are currently conducting an active investigation into the heist. At present, no leads or suspects have been identified.

Was this the largest Heist in LA History?

“The heist is one of the largest in Los Angeles history and also outpaced all of the region’s armoured-car thefts.” Los Angeles Police Department, Cmdr. Elaine Morales.

The occurrence takes place almost two years following the theft of up to $100 million in jewels and other valuable items from a Brink’s armored truck at a truck stop in Southern California.
