Elon Musk’s Controversial Ultimatum: ‘Report On Work By Monday Or Resign’

Elon Musk and Donald Trump

The Trump administration has ordered U.S. federal workers to submit a summary of their work accomplishments from the past week by Monday night or risk termination. The directive came via emails sent Saturday evening to employees across various agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Musk’s Mandate

This demand follows a social media post by Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), in which he stated that non-compliance would be considered a resignation. “All federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week,” he posted on X. “Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.”

Trump Pushes For Workforce Downsizing

Elon Musk’s directive aligns with President Donald Trump’s push to shrink and restructure the federal workforce. The email required employees to respond with five bullet points summarizing their weekly accomplishments and to copy their managers. It was sent from a human resources address linked to the Office of Personnel Management, with a deadline of 11:59 p.m. EST on Monday.

Questions also arise regarding workers handling information and those at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), where many have been barred from performing tasks due to ongoing legal battles.

Some federal agencies, including NOAA and the Executive Office for United States Attorneys, have advised staff to hold off on responding until the email’s legitimacy is verified. The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) has strongly opposed the move, vowing to fight any unlawful dismissals.

“Once again, Elon Musk and the Trump administration have shown their utter disdain for federal employees and the critical services they provide to the American people,” said AFGE national president Everett Kelley.
