Explosion Reported From Southern Beirut As Israel Issues New Evacuation Orders

As tension between Israel & Hezbollah escalates, an explosion was reported in Beirut’s southern suburb early Saturday, with smoke seen rising in the Burj al-Barajneh neighborhood on early Saturday. Reports Reuters.

This comes after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued urgent evacuation orders for civilians in specific buildings within the area, warning residents to stay at least 500 meters away from the affected zone.

Further, the Israeli military has intensified its strikes on southern Beirut in recent days and has launched a series of air raids on thursday night.

This latest round of bombardments marks one of the heaviest since the beginning of the conflict last week. In addition to Burj al-Barajneh, evacuation alerts were also issued for Choueifat, another neighborhood in the Lebanese capital.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, now approaching a year, has led to the deaths of over 2,000 people in Lebanon, revealed Lebanese government on Wednesday.

A significant portion of these casualties has occurred in the past two weeks, as what began as sporadic cross-border skirmishes has escalated into a large-scale Israeli military offensive targeting Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the United Nations has expressed concern over the rising civilian death toll, calling the impact of Israel’s campaign against Hezbollah “totally unacceptable.”

Later, Lebanon’s Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, has called on the international community to exert pressure on Israel to permit rescue and relief teams to access bombed areas and safely transport casualties.
