External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar extended a warm welcome and bid farewell to the outgoing UK High Commissioner, Alex Ellis, on Tuesday, expressing gratitude for his efforts in strengthening bilateral ties between India and the United Kingdom.

In a gracious acknowledgment of Ellis’s dedicated service and contributions during his tenure in India, EAM Jaishankar conveyed his appreciation for the outgoing UK High Commissioner’s role in fostering closer relations between the two countries.

“Glad to receive UK High Commissioner @AlexWEllis on his farewell call. Thank him for strengthening our bilateral relationship,” tweeted EAM Jaishankar, underscoring the significance of Ellis’s diplomatic efforts.

Alex Ellis assumed the role of British High Commissioner to India in 2021, bringing with him a wealth of experience in various areas of diplomacy and international relations. Previously, he served as the Deputy National Security Adviser for the Integrated Review on foreign and security policy, demonstrating his proficiency in handling complex security issues and strategic challenges.

Throughout his distinguished career, Ellis has held key positions such as Director General in the Department for Exiting the EU, British Ambassador to Brazil and Portugal, and Director of Strategy in the Foreign Office. His extensive experience spans areas including EU negotiations, security partnerships, and strategic policy development.

Prior to his diplomatic career, Ellis also contributed to the transition to multi-party democracy in South Africa and served as a teacher, including in India. Known for his passion for music, theatre, and sports, particularly cricket, Ellis has left a lasting impression on the diplomatic landscape with his dedication and expertise.

As he bids farewell to India, Ellis leaves behind a legacy of strengthened ties between the UK and India, reflecting his commitment to fostering cooperation and understanding between the two nations.
