The father of Mohammed Abdul Arfath, an Indian student found dead in the US state of Ohio, has made a heartfelt plea to the government to bring his son’s body back to India.
Mohammed Abdul Arfath, a native of Hyderabad, had been missing since March this year before his body was discovered in a river in Ohio, as confirmed by the Consulate General of India in New York on Tuesday.
Expressing his anguish, Mohammed Saleem, the father of the deceased, stated, “I filed the complaint on March 7 that my son went missing. Since then, we haven’t got any information. Today morning, we got the call that my son’s body was in the river. We urge the government to bring his body back to India.”
“I appeal to the state government and Central government to bring back his son’s body to our house,” added Mohd Saleem, emphasizing the family’s desire for closure and proper arrangements for their son’s last rites.
The Consulate General of India in New York expressed its condolences to the family and assured that all possible assistance would be provided to transport Mohammed Abdul Arfath’s mortal remains to India.
The tragic incident adds to a series of recent unfortunate events involving Indian students abroad. Last week, Uma Satya Sai Gadde, an Indian student in Cleveland, Ohio, passed away under mysterious circumstances, prompting a police investigation.
This follows another distressing incident in February, where an Indian student faced a brutal attack in Chicago. The Indian Consulate in Chicago has been actively involved in providing support and assistance to the victim, Syed Mazahir Ali, and his family in India.
