Hindu Farmer And Three Children Found Hanging From Tree In Pakistan

A Hindu farmer and his three young children were discovered dead in Pakistan’s Sindh province on Friday, October 4. The bodies of 32-year-old Chaman Kolhi and his children—eight-year-old Bhagchand, six-year-old Hero, and four-year-old Sohni—were found hanging from a tree near Palli Morr in the Umerkot district.

The bodies were located in a mango farm within the jurisdiction of the Bodar Farm police station. Law enforcement officials promptly removed the bodies and transported them to a local hospital for examination.

According to reports, police investigations suggest that Chaman had been facing severe financial difficulties and marital tensions stemming from a poor agricultural yield this season. Preliminary findings indicate the possibility that he may have hanged his children before taking his own life, but a comprehensive investigation is currently underway to clarify the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

Highlighting Community Struggles

This heartbreaking incident underscores the severe hardships faced by the Hindu community in Sindh. Hindu activist Shiva Kacchi took to social media platform X to share the harrowing details. He expressed his outrage over the government’s apparent inaction, stating, “Tired of hunger and unemployment, Chaman Kolhi, a poor Hindu farmer, committed suicide along with his three innocent children. The incidence of suicide among the Hindu community in Sindh has greatly increased. The government and institutions have become silent spectators.”

Increasing Suicides In The Region

The rising suicide rates among the Hindu community in Sindh starkly reflect the ongoing oppression and neglect experienced by religious minorities in Pakistan. While significant resources are allocated by the Pakistan Army to maintain control over contested regions like Khyber, POB, and POJK, the dire situations faced by marginalized communities such as the Kolhi family remain largely ignored.

At the time of this report, the bodies had been sent for post-mortem examinations, and updates regarding the ongoing investigation are awaited.
