A Hindu temple in Jhenaidah, Bangladesh, had a deity’s idol vandalised, causing authorities to go on the lookout for the culprits, according to local media.
According to Sukumar Kunda, head of the temple committee, authorities at the Dautiya village’s Kali temple discovered the statue shattered into pieces on Friday morning. The district’s assistant superintendent of police, Amit Kumar Burman, stated that an inquiry had started on Thursday after a case had been filed.
Sukumar said that thieves broke into the temple at night and destroyed the idol. According to bdnews24.com, the idol’s head was discovered discarded on the road a half-kilometer from the temple.
This tragedy happened a day after the idols were immersed to mark the completion of Bangladesh’s annual 10-day Durga Puja celebrations on the auspicious day of Vijayadashami or Dusshera.
This is not the first time that a temple has experienced vandalism. Idols were stolen from the ISKCON Radhakanta Jeev temple in Dhaka on March 17 of this year. The vandals apparently also beat up a number of followers.
More than 200 terrorists headed by Haji Shafiullah stormed, destroyed, and looted the ISKCON Radhakanta temple at 222, Lal Mohan Saha Street in Wari, according to Amani Krishna Das, the temple’s public relations officer.
ISKON official stated that “the miscreants attempted to break the security wall of the temple.” ISKON authorities said that on October 16, 2021, a temple in Bangladesh’s Noakhali city was vandalised and a devotee was slain by a mob.
