Hurricane Helene: Walmart & Dolly Parton Unite For Relief Efforts, Make Major Donations

In a wholesome gesture and displaying rare unity for dreadful event, Walmart and country music icon Dolly Parton are stepping up to support relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Helene.

Walmart has committed a generous $10 million to assist in recovery efforts, while Parton has announced a $1 million donation to the Mountain Ways Foundation.

Additionally, her East Tennessee businesses—including Dollywood Parks & Resorts, Dolly Parton’s Stampede, and Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show—along with The Dollywood Foundation, will match her donation with another $1 million contribution.

Talking about her contribution, she said “These are special people; they’re my people…While I believe that all people are my people, those who grew up in the mountains share a close connection with me. I can’t bear to see anyone in pain, so I wanted to help after these devastating floods. My hope is that we can all be a source of light for our friends, neighbors, and even strangers during this dark time.”

While, emphasising the importance of continued support, she also added “I appreciate that my East Tennessee businesses and Walmart are stepping up for flood relief. This money will help many, but there is still so much more this area needs. I hope more people will consider donating or volunteering because the community is hurting right now.”

In my 31 years at Walmart, I have never seen a storm as widespread and destructive as this one. Our associates always rise to the occasion when needed, and we will continue to support people and communities until they have fully recovered.”

Moreover, Furner also highlighted Parton’s dedication to her community, noting, “One of the things we love most about Dolly is her incredible heart and care for her community. She exemplifies the spirit of our associates, who are always the first to act when help is needed. We will continue to provide support until the community recovers.”

Meanwhile, while talking about the challenges faced by people in the area, president of Dollywood Parks & Resorts Eugene Naughton said “This beautiful area we cherish is facing significant challenges. While it may seem daunting now, the spirit of the people here will help them overcome these hardships. We encourage others to donate or volunteer to support their neighbors and communities during this difficult time.”
