Icelandic Foreign Minister Arrives In Delhi To Enhance Trade And Investment Ties

The Foreign Minister of Iceland, Bjarni Benediktsson, arrived in the national capital on Sunday, receiving a warm welcome from Randhir Jaiswal, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Randhir Jaiswal, in a post on social media platform ‘X,’ expressed excitement about Benediktsson’s visit, emphasizing its potential to enhance the ties between India and Iceland, particularly in trade and investment. The MEA spokesperson shared, “A warm welcome to FM @Bjarni_Ben of Iceland to India. His visit is set to further strengthen our ties, including in trade and investment.”

Despite the geographical distance and population contrast, India and Iceland have actively fostered friendships based on shared values and mutual interests. Bilateral relations have seen increased dynamism through a series of high-level visits since 2000.

Iceland, as the first Nordic country, publicly supported India’s candidacy for permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). This stance has been consistently reiterated by Iceland on various occasions.

The MEA highlighted that bilateral high-level visits by dignitaries from both countries have played a pivotal role in strengthening official ties between India and Iceland.
