Israel-Hamas War: IDF Claims ‘No Humanitarian Crisis’ in Gaza Amid Evacuations

Amid orders for Palestinians to move south, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have stated that there is “no humanitarian crisis” in the Gaza Strip, as reported by The Times of Israel on Saturday.

Approximately 700,000 people, out of the nearly 1.1 million population living in northern Gaza, have evacuated to the south in the past few days, according to the Israel Defence Forces.

An Israeli security official mentioned, “As of now, I can tell you that there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza. There are hardships in moving people within days to the south of the Gaza Strip, but the population is getting along. There is no shortage of water in Gaza, there is enough food for the coming weeks, and there is no shortage of medicines in the hospitals as far as we know.”

However, the United Nations and multiple rights groups have highlighted a dire situation in Gaza, with over 60% of primary care facilities currently closed, hospitals on the brink of collapse, and severe shortages of power, medicine, medical equipment, and specialized personnel. The ongoing Israeli airstrikes have also led to the closure of seven hospitals and 21 primary healthcare centers in Gaza, with the loss of 64 medical staff members in the ongoing conflict.

Efforts are underway to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza through the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza, as more than 3,000 tonnes of aid have started entering Gaza. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has emphasized the critical importance of these humanitarian efforts in a region facing severe challenges.
