The International Energy Agency (IEA) is set to organize the Global Summit on People-Centred Clean Energy Transitions at its headquarters in Paris on April 26.
Chaired by IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol, the summit will feature Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy Alexandre Silveira and a special address by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo.
The event aims to facilitate dialogues among policymakers, labour and business leaders, indigenous voices, civil society representatives, and youth representatives. The goal is to encourage global collaboration and address the challenges associated with implementing and monitoring people-centred clean energy transitions.
The summit will underscore the importance of prioritizing people in clean energy transitions by involving citizens as active participants and designing policies that ensure equitable distribution of benefits and costs. It will also emphasize the significance of creating and preserving jobs, fostering skills development, safeguarding workers and communities, and leveraging new opportunities in the clean energy sector.
Discussions during the summit will focus on building a shared understanding of the principles behind adopting a people-centred approach, aligning with the priorities of the G7 and G20. This initiative precedes COP29 and COP30 and aims to advance efforts in defining and monitoring inclusivity and the social impacts of clean energy transitions.
The summit proceedings will be live-streamed on the IEA website and social media platforms.
