On Tuesday, Imran Khan, Pakistan’s imprisoned ex-prime minister, claimed that his wife and former first lady, Bushra Bibi, had been poisoned while being held at his private residence, which had been converted into a sub-jail. He stressed that if any harm came to her, the army chief should be held accountable.
“I am aware of who is responsible,” Khan declared, as reported by The Express Tribune newspaper.
Khan linked the management of his residence and Adiala jail to an intelligence agency, holding the Pakistan Army chief responsible for any harm to Bushra. He urged the court to mandate a medical examination of Bushra by Dr. Asim from Shaukat Khanum Hospital, expressing skepticism regarding the previous examination.
In response to the former prime minister’s request, the court directed Khan to file a detailed application concerning the medical assessment of the former first lady.
Khan indicates towards an “American Agent”
Addressing the media following the hearing, Bushra responded to circulating rumors within the party suggesting her association as an “American agent” and asserted that she had been poisoned with a common toilet cleaner.
Detailing the alleged poisoning incident, Bushra explained that “three drops” of the toilet cleaner had been added to her food, resulting in symptoms such as swollen eyes, chest and stomach discomfort, and a bitter taste in food and water. She mentioned that an inmate informed her about the substances added to her food but declined to reveal names.
Bushra informed the court about her fair treatment at the Bani Gala sub-jail but expressed dissatisfaction with the restriction on opening windows for a period.
Previously, PTI had voiced concerns about Bushra being served “poisonous food” during her detention, citing her severe discomfort.
